Clive Hindle

Clive initially trained as a lawyer in Newcastle before going to Hong Kong to gain further legal experience.  He returned to the North East in 1978 and set up his own firm Clive M Hindle in North Shields.  Over the following 38 years under Clive’s leadership the business has evolved into the highly respected high street law firm Hindle Campbell Law, serving the local community and beyond.  Clive has been involved in a number of high profile cases in various areas of law and has, at the same time, built up an expertise in commercial cases and in complex areas of law, including judicial review and administrative decisions.

Clive is a consultant in the commercial department of Hindle Campbell which covers litigation of various types but also deals with corporate matters including share/asset sales and purchases. Clive is happy to take on cases no matter how big the opponent is. He has been responsible for some significant successes in litigation.  In the 1980’s he was at the forefront of the line of cases in the Supreme Court which defined the scope of Undue Influence in commercial transactions and in 2003 he successfully concluded simultaneously in excess of 100 cases against one of the world’s largest oil companies.  In 2013 Clive was successful in winning a landmark case in the Court of Appeal case against a high street bank which clarified certain aspect of the law of guarantees and of the jurisdiction (prior to Brexit) of the European Court of Justice (CJEU).  He has a specific interest in land law and is an adviser in the commercial property team on complicated problems arising in property transactions before they transform into disputes.  He has also been responsible for putting together a ground-breaking joint venture between a fuel station group and nationwide grocery chain which has more than stood the test of time since its inception in 2004 through its continuous expansion to the present day.  Clive has a significant number of North East based business clients but his reputation extends to the Midlands and to London.  He has over the years been consulted by clients from all regions in the UK.
