All mothers and most fathers have legal rights and responsibilities as a parent. This does not mean that as a parent you automatically have a right to have your child living with you or even being in contact with them. It does however mean that you have a right to be kept updated about their well-being and progress. We can advise you of your rights and act on your behalf to protect or enforce them.
Whether or not you have parental responsibility varies depending on your circumstances such as unmarried fathers, fathers on birth certificates, fathers living in Scotland, Ireland or overseas, same sex parents, civil partnership parents.
We can advise you on your rights and apply for parental responsibility if appropriate.
We are happy to discuss your rights and advise you in a free consultation.
